The papilae of the proboscidian sheath of Notomastus latericeus from periphery to center contain: 1. Epithelial cells, rich in chromolipoïdic pigment and covered with a collagenic cuticle. 2. Glandular cells, synthesizing secretory materials in the Golgi apparatus, namely sulfated mucins, which are excreted through cuticular pores. 3.
