Synthetic oligonucleotides corresponding to conserved regions of cysteine proteinases were used as primers in the RT-PCR amplification of a fragment of cDNA corresponding to a region of a cysteine proteinase gene expressed during germination of chickpea (cac for Cicer arietinum cysteine proteinase).
