Structural changes in oriented polyethylene etched with fuming nitric acid were studied by X-ray diffraction. Samples of various molecular masses drawn to different drawing ratios were considered. Prolonged etching (up to 200 h), caused considerable changes in the SAXS patterns, notably, an additional broad reflection appeared.
