We studied the floristic composition and structure of the arboreal component (trees, palms and ferns with DBH equal to or greater than 4.8 cm) of two plots of Lower Montane Rain Forest in Ubatuba, SP, one with a history of selective logging and the other more preserved. We sampled 50 families, 114 genera and 193 species (four undetermined). The richest families were Myrtaceae, Fabaceae, Lauraceae, Rubiaceae, Melastomataceae and Sapotaceae. In the disturbed plot we sampled 104 species, 72 genera…

This study presents a comparative analyzes of two areas of Atlantic Rain Forest, in the municipality of Ubatuba (SP), Brazil, and tests the hypothesis that floristic composition and phytosociological structure change along an altitudinal gradient, and shows that there are significant differences in density, richness and volume.

Analysis of floristic composition and structure as an aid to monitoring protected areas of dense rain forest in southeastern Brazil

ABSTRACT To study forest composition and structure, as well as to facilitate management plans and monitoring programs, we conducted a phytosociological survey in the PE Caverna do Diabo State Park

The identification key was developed taking into account the herbarium specimens from the species of the arboreal stratum sampled, with at least 4.8 cm DBH, in two stretches of Lower Montane Rain

Floristic and phytossociology data of 11 plots of 1 ha, allocated along an altitudinal gradient in the Serra do Mar, Sao Paulo, Brazil, found 562 species in 195 genera and 68 families, while 12 other species did not occur only in the Restinga Forest.

Plant community dynamics in an urban forest fragment of the São Paulo Metropolitan Area, Brazil

ABSTRACT We present a synthesis (2006-2012) of plant community dynamics in an area (1 ha) of the largest remnant of Atlantic Rain Forest surrounded by São Paulo city. Plants with ≥ 2.5 cm dbh,

Characterization of 10 microsatellite loci for Bathysa australis (Rubiaceae)1

These are the first microsatellite markers developed for the genus Bathysa and may be useful in other species of the Condamineeae tribe and an important tool for studies of population ecology and conservation genetics.

Non-volant small mammals at an Atlantic forest area situated nearby a limestone quarry (Limeira quarry), state of São Paulo, Brazil

Our aim was to survey the non-flying small mammals inhabiting an Atlantic forest area situated nearby a limestone quarry (Limeira quarry), located at Ribeirao Grande municipality (SP), southeastern

Family Legacy: Depicting Diversity-Elevation Relationships of Tropical Tree Communities

Unveiling the ecological processes driving diversity and its relationship to the environment remains a central goal in ecological studies. Here, we investigated the elevation effect on plant

Ecological outcomes and livelihood benefits of community‐managed agroforests and second growth forests in Southeast Brazil

The Forest and Landscape Restoration movement has emerged as an approach to reconcile biodiversity conservation, ecosystem services provisioning and human well‐being in degraded landscapes, but

This study aimed to evaluate tree floristic composition of the submontane Atlantic Forest in the Imbau region, Silva Jardim, Rio de Janeiro. About 50 years ago, the forest fragmentation process was

The results showed that the floristic composition changed with altitude, but not the forest structure and species diversity, which can be considered to be within the highest values found for Atlantic forests.

Several structural and functional modifications have been indicated as result of the process of fragmentation of the forest communities. To evaluate some of these effects, we compared the species

Based on the floristic data and the high values found for standing dead trees, trees supporting lianas, number of multiple stems and number of early secondary species and the low number of large trees, this forest can be classified as a secondary forest in an intermediate regenerating status.

Diameter (stem height of Euterpe edulis) distributions of the main species indicate abundant regeneration and stable population structure, and this forest is probably at climax or at least approaching the final stage of succession.

In Brazil, the seasonal tropical forest is located between the humid forests in the east and savannas in the west and it has been historically fragmented, leaving few remnants today. This study was

Vegetational mosaic of contiguous forest area in a coastal plain, Campina do Encantado State Park, Pariquera- Acu, SP). Our objective in this paper was to characterize the floristics, structure and

Distribution and abundance of arboreal species in the atlantic ombrophilous dense forest in Southeastern Brazil*

The relative densities of arboreal species of 17 surveys carried out in the Atlantic Ombrophilous Dense Forest of São Paulo state, SE Brazil, were compared by means of multivariate analysis (cluster,

It was concluded that t he exclusiveness of the species in the distinct gradients, the value of density of the contrasty individuals for thespecies in the gradients and the model of spatial distribution of thespecies along the river bed demonstrated the specificity of the environment to the headwaters.

Although the "Mata do Carvao" showed lower tree diversity than those found for other semi-deciduous seasonal forests, it has a high species similarity between the tabuleiro forests of South Bahia and North of Espirito Santo.
