The parasites of 16 Magellan geese (Chloephaga picta picta: 8 females and 8 males), captured in May 2002 in the Commune of Rio Verde, Province of Magallanes, XII Region, Chile, were studied. All the birds from this study were found positive for the endoparasitic nematode Heterakis dispar. In one of the birds, proglotides were found which, from a morphological analysis, belong to the family Hymenolepidae. The total number of specimens of H. dispar was greater in male geese than in females. The…

TLDR
The relatively high parasite richness that was found could be attributed to the highly favorable conditions of wetlands for parasite development.
Stomach nematodes of three sympatric species of anatid birds off the coast of Patagonia
TLDR
Despite the low number of hosts examined, this work enhances knowledge about parasites from a frequently occurring group of birds on the Patagonian coast, a subject that has not been studied extensively in South America.
Pardirallus sanguinolentus ( Aves : Rallidae ) do Chile central
TLDR
The relatively high parasite richness that was found could be attributed to the highly favorable conditions of wetlands for parasite development.
First record of Australapatemon burti and Paramonostomum pseudalveatum (Digenea) from Anas georgica (Aves, Anseriformes) in Chile
TLDR
The reports of A. burti and P. pseudalveatum in A. georgica represent a new host record and the first record of the genera Australapatemon Sudarikov, 1959 and Paramonostomum Lühe, 1909 from Chile.
Gastrointestinal helminths and related histopathological lesions in black-necked swans Cygnus melancoryphus from the Carlos Anwandter Nature Sanctuary, Southern Chile.
TLDR
Black-necked swans are distributed across South America and face conservation problems in Chile according to data of the State institution SAG, but it is difficult to declare that there is a clear association between such lesions and isolated parasites, as other noxa could be responsible as well.
Nuevos registros de piojos (Insecta: Phthiraptera) en aves domésticas y ornamentales en Chile New records of lice (Insecta: Phthiraptera) from domestic and ornamental birds from Chile
TLDR
Previous records of Phthiraptera in domestic and ornamental birds of Chile are confirmed and update through the examination of the plumage of the birds.
Checklist and state of knowledge of helminths in wild birds from Chile: an update
TLDR
There are evident gaps in the data concerning the hosts sampled, methodologies and issues related to the biology of parasites such as life cycles, among others.
Gastrointestinal helminths of the Caspian snowcock (Tetraogallus caspius) partridge from the North Khorasan province, Iran
The aim of this study was to establish the recognition of the parasitic infection of the Caspian snowcock (Tetraogallus caspius) partridge from the North Khorasan province that is one of the
Lice of Chilean Diurnal Raptors
TLDR
Species of lice collected from 12 species of Chilean diurnal raptors are described and it is found that in Chilean Falconiformes Colpocephalum turbinatum Denny, 1842 is the louse species associated with the greatest number of raptor species, and the degree of host-specificity is high.
First records of chewing lice (Phthiraptera: Menoponidae) in Pacific migratory shorebirds wintering in Ecuador.

TLDR
These findings indicate that the distribution of these chewing lice species covers at least the regions around the equator (latitude 0°) until the Arctic in the north, but probably also includes the entire winter distribution area of the host species.

Some mortality patterns of Greater Magellan Geese on the Falkland Islands
TLDR
Intestinal parasites were commonly present in sick or dead and apparently healthy wild Greater Magellan Geese Chlophaga picta leucoptera and the reasons for the differential mortality of males are not clear but may include their greater susceptibility to food shortage and its enhancement of disease, and hunting mortality.
Nematóides do Brasil. Parte IV: nematóides de aves
TLDR
A survey of nematode species parasitizing Brazilian birds is presented, with enough data to provide their specific identification, which includes 54 families and genera.
Dynamics of parasitic infections at four sites within lesser snow geese (Chen caerulescens caerulescens) from the breeding colony at La Pérouse Bay, Manitoba, Canada.
TLDR
It would appear that breeding colonies are the foci for transmission of E. truncata, a significant pathogen of adults and goslings, in lesser snow geese.
Sexual Inequalities in Helminth Infections: A Cost of Being a Male?
TLDR
To determine whether differences in levels of infection between host sexes are random (i.e., normally distributed around a mean of zero) or biased in favor of one sex, results of comparisons of helminth infections between female and male vertebrates are analyzed.

Parasitology meets ecology on its own terms: Margolis et al. revisited.
TLDR
Suggestions for various terms used by parasitologists when describing the ecology of parasites are provided in an attempt to foster consistent use and to make terms used in parasite ecology easier to interpret for those who study free-living organisms.
Slide-mounting of Lice: a Detailed Description of the Canada Balsam technique
TLDR
The author has had the unfortunate experience of having to examine type specimens mounted in polyvinyl alcohol which showed marked signs of deterioration after only 15 years, and has led the author to publish the basic Canada balsam technique in the hope that it will facilitate good standardised results by workers in this field.
