The Mecoacan lagoon located in the municipality of Paraiso, Tabasco, is a coastal system characterized by an important oyster production that has been impacted by various anthropogenic activities. Among the main structural components of the ecosystem are mangrove swamps, large oyster beds (Crassostrea virginica) and a diverse fish community.
