Our understanding of the hormonal control of theproliferation of normal human breast epithelium is stillsurprisingly meager. However, the results of a number ofrecent studies have confirmed that estrogen is the major steroid mitogen for the luminalepithelial cell population (the usual targets forneoplastic transformation).
