MUCIN1 (MUC1), a member of the mucin family anchored to the apical surface of the epithelial cells, is responsible for immune inflammation and tumorigenesis. A Muc1 knockout mouse model was established for exploring the biological functions and studying mechanisms of MUC1 in tumorigenesis and metastasis. It is shown that coexpression of Her2 and MUC1-CD is associated with downregulation of tricarboxylic acid (TCA) cycle genes in tumors, and the reduction in TCA cycle genes induced by MUC 1-CD was found to be significantly connected to poor prognosis in HER2+ breast cancer patients.
