An increased hippocampal neurogenesis has been observed in Alzheimer disease (AD), the most common neurodegenerative disorder characterized with accumulation of β-amyloid (Aβ) and hyperphosphorylated tau (p-tau). Studies in transgenic mouse models suggest that the amyloidosis suppresses adult neurogenesis.
