Although rare, esophageal duplications are the second most common duplication of the alimentary tract, after the ileum, comprising 15–30% of the cases. The majority of the alimentary tract duplications are cystic. Cysts located proximally in the esophagus may cause respiratory symptoms, and cysts located distally can cause dysphagia.
