A Gram-stain-negative, non-motile, coccoid- or oval-shaped bacterial strain, designated S-5(T), belonging to the class Alphaproteobacteria, was isolated from a tidal flat sediment of the Yellow Sea, Korea and was subjected to a polyphasic taxonomic study. Strain S-5(T) grew optimally at pH 7.0-8.0, at 30 °C and in the presence of 2-3 % (w/v) NaCl.
