Bacterial canker of papaya (Carica papaya) emerged during the 1980s in different islands of the Caribbean. Nineteen strains of Gram-negative, rod-shaped, non-spore-forming bacteria isolated from papaya were compared to 38 reference and type strains of phytopathogenic Enterobacteriaceae and related bacteria. Phylogenetic analysis of 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that the papaya strains belonged to the genus Erwinia. The DNA G+C content of strain CFBP 5189T, 52.5 mol%, is in the range of the…
Erwinia oleae sp. nov., isolated from olive knots caused by Pseudomonas savastanoi pv. savastanoi.
TLDR
Three endophytic bacterial isolates obtained in Italy from olive knots caused by Pseudomonas savastanoi indicated a phylogenetic position for these isolates in the genera Erwinia or Pantoea, and two other strains with highly similar 16S rRNA gene sequences were revealed, obtained in Spain from Olive knots.
Erwinia mallotivora sp., a New Pathogen of Papaya (Carica papaya) in Peninsular Malaysia
TLDR
The first new discovery of E. mallotivora as a causal agent of papaya dieback disease in Peninsular Malaysia is confirmed and it is confirmed to be pathogenic to Carica papaya.
Erwinia gerundensis sp. nov., a cosmopolitan epiphyte originally isolated from pome fruit trees.
TLDR
A survey to obtain potential antagonists of pome fruit tree diseases yielded two yellow epiphytic bacterial isolates morphologically similar to Pantoea agglomerans, but showing no biocontrol activity, which placed the two strains in the genus Erwinia and supported their classification as a novel species.
Erwinia endophytica sp. nov., isolated from potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) stems.
TLDR
The combined genotypic, phenotypic and chemotaxonomic data support the classification of strains BSTT30T and BSTT40 into a novel species of the genus Erwinia, for which the nameErwinia endophytica sp.
Erwinia mallotivora is the causal agent of papaya bacterial crown rot disease in Lampung Timur, Indonesia
TLDR
The first finding of E. mallotivora as the causal agent of papaya crown rot disease in Indonesia is found, and the phenotypic characteristics revealed that the strains resembled Erwinia mallotvora.
Defense Biopriming and Antimicrobial Activity of Endophytic Bacteria and Associated Bacillus Species Contribute to Bacterial Crown Rot Tolerance in Papaya
TLDR
Results indicated that tolerance of papaya against E. mallotivora infection is probably influenced by host innate properties such as tissue regrowth and pathogen inhibition by plant latex, and acquired properties including pathogen antagonism, growth promotion and defense biopriming through metabolites from beneficial endophytic and root-assocaited bacteria.
Erwinia typographi sp. nov., isolated from bark beetle (Ips typographus) gut.
TLDR
The results obtained in this study indicated that these bacteria from the bark beetle gut represented a novel species, for which the name Erwinia typographi sp.
Mixta gen. nov., a new genus in the Erwiniaceae.
The Erwiniaceae contain many species of agricultural and clinical importance. Although relationships among most of the genera in this family are relatively well resolved, the phylogenetic placement
Influence of native endophytic bacteria on the growth and bacterial crown rot tolerance of papaya (Carica papaya)
TLDR
Observations of pathogen antagonism, plant growth promotion leading to disease reduction by ACMs of native endophytic bacteria suggested its contribution to increased fitness of papaya and tolerance against the (re)emerging BCR disease.
Classification and Taxonomy of Vegetable Macergens
TLDR
This review clarifies the taxonomy of the macergens to the species level and revealed that their taxonomy is beyond complete.

TLDR
DNA hybridization group 14589 constitutes a discrete species within the family Enterobacteriaceae and is proposed to unite DNA hybridization groups 14589 and 27155 in a single genus, Pantoea gen. nov.

Elevation of three subspecies of Pectobacterium carotovorum to species level: Pectobacterium atrosepticum sp. nov., Pectobacterium betavasculorum sp. nov. and Pectobacterium wasabiae sp. nov.
TLDR
Biochemical criteria, deduced from a numerical taxonomy study of phenotypic characteristics and serological reactions, allowed discrimination of strains belonging to the four genomospecies and it is proposed to retain the P. carotovorum subspecies in the genus Pectobacterium.

The thermal denaturation of partly purified bacterial deoxyribonucleic acid and its taxonomic applications.
TLDR
The presence of residual RNA and protein in the partly purified DNA samples contributed to variations in the total hyperchromism but did not significantly affect the accuracy of the melting temperature determination.

TLDR
The assay of homo- and heteroduplexes with the S1 endonuclease permits an accurate, reproducible and rapid determination of polynucleotide sequence relationships and may be seriously considered as a method of choice for survey work and for investigations which require a large number of DNA-DNA hybridization assays.
