In this work, a neutrino gas in equilibrium is studied both at T = 0 and at finite temperature. Neutrinos are treated as massive Dirac quasi-particles with two generations. We include self-interactions among the neutrinos via neutral currents, as well as the interaction with a background of matter. To obtain the equilibrium properties, we use Wigner function techniques. To account for corrections beyond the Hartree approximation, we also introduce correlation functions. We prove that, under the… Expand

General kinetic description of relativistic mixed neutrinos
Abstract We derive a general Boltzmann-type collision integral for mixed neutrinos interacting with each other and with a medium. Our treatment is fully relativistic in that antineutrino degrees ofExpand

Contrary to previous studies, it is found that in the neutrino-driven wind the electron fraction Y(e) always stays below 0.5, corresponding to a neutron-rich environment as required by r-process nucleosynthesis. Expand

TLDR
It is shown that a sound self-consistent analytical approximation can in the first place only be performed in the adiabatic limit where phase terms are suppressed, and analytical approximations for the flavor conversion efficiencies can indeed be extended by neglecting phase terms. Expand
