We discuss the equations of motion of test particles for a version of Kaluza-Klein theory where the cylinder condition is not imposed. The metric tensor of the five-dimensional manifold is allowed to depend on the fifth coordinate. This is the usual working scenario in brane-world, induced-matter theory and other Kaluza-Klein theories with large extra dimensions. We present a new version for the fully covariant splitting of the 5D equations. We show how to change the usual definition of various…

Invariant Definition of Rest Mass and Dynamics of Particles in 4D from Bulk Geodesics in Brane-World and Non-Compact Kaluza Klein Theories

In the Randall–Sundrum brane-world scenario and other non-compact Kaluza–Klein theories, the motion of test particles is higher-dimensional in nature. In other words, all test particles travel on

Wesson’s Induced Matter Theory with a Weylian Bulk

The foundations of Wesson’s induced matter theory are analyzed. It is shown that the empty—without matter—5-dimensional bulk must be regarded as a Weylian space rather than as a Riemannian one.

The purpose of this paper is to present, in a covariant form and in their full generality, the equations of motion for space-time-matter (STM) theory. The whole study is based on the new approach of

On the extra force in brane world scenario

In the study of the dynamics in a 5D bulk from brane world scenario, an extra force with abnormal properties was detected (cf. [D. Youm, Extra force in brane worlds, Phys. Rev. D62 (2000) 084002; D.

Path and Path Deviation Equations in Kaluza-Klein Type Theories: A Brief Introduction

Path and path deviation equations for charged, spinning and spinning charged objects in different versions of Kaluza-Klein (KK) theory using a modified Bazanski Lagrangian have been derived. The

On spinless null propagation in five-dimensional space-times with approximate space-like Killing symmetry

Five-dimensional (5D) space-time symmetry greatly facilitates how a 4D observer perceives the propagation of a single spinless particle in a 5D space-time. In particular, if the 5D geometry is

Generalised Proper Time as a Unifying Basis for Models with Two Right-Handed Neutrinos

Models with two right-handed neutrinos are able to accommodate solar and atmospheric neutrino oscillation observations as well as a mechanism for the baryon asymmetry of the universe. While

Dark matter and cosmic acceleration from Wesson’s IMT

In the present work a procedure is build up, that allows obtaining dark matter (DM) and cosmic acceleration in our 4D universe embedded in a 5D manifold. Both, DM and the factor causing cosmic
