We study quasi-species and closely related evolutionary dynamics like the replicator-mutator equation in high dimensions. In particular, we show that under certain conditions the fitness of almost all quasi-species becomes independent of mutational probabilities and the initial frequency distributions of the sequences in high dimensional sequence spaces. This result is the consequence of the concentration of measure on a high dimensional hypersphere and its extension to Lipschitz functions…

Stability by Mutation in Evolutionary Games

Abstract Evolutionary game dynamics of mixed-strategy distributions typically exhibits continua of stationary states. We introduce a dynamical model of mutation in evolutionary games, in which all

Mutation in autocatalytic reaction networks

A class of kinetic equations describing catalysed and template induced replication, and mutation is introduced, and Quantitative expressions for the shifts of rest points are computed directly from the perturbation expansion.

The hypercycle. A principle of natural self-organization. Part A: Emergence of the hypercycle.

An analysis of experimental data regarding RNA and D N A replication reveals that a sufficient amount of information for the build up of a translation machinery can be gained only via integration of several different replicative units (or reproductive cycles) throughfimctional linkages.

From Quasispecies to Universal Grammar

To compare mathematical models for the evolutionary dynamics of genomes and languages, the quasispecies equation and language equation are compared.

What is a quasispecies?

The quasispecies concept has been shown to affect the pathway of evolution and has been studied on RNA viruses which have a particularly high mutation rate.

Evolutionary Dynamics: Exploring the Equations of Life

This chapter discusses games in Finite Populations, fitness Landscapes and Sequence Spaces, and the evolution of Virulence, as well as the Evolutionary Dynamics of Cancer and Language Evolution.

Statistical physics of self-replication.

It is found that the minimum value for the physically allowed rate of heat production is determined by the growth rate, internal entropy, and durability of the replicator, and the implications for bacterial cell division and the pre-biotic emergence of self-replicating nucleic acids are discussed.

Stable Polymorphisms in a Selection Model with Mutation

In the continuous-time selection model for a single locus with several alleles, a stable polymorphism persists under mutation. Global stability can be shown for two and three alleles. For the

Selforganization of matter and the evolution of biological macromolecules

The causes and effect of cause and effect, and the prerequisites of Selforganization, are explained in more detail in the I.IA.
