We report accurate measurements of the equation of state (EOS) of cubic boron nitride by x-ray diffraction up to 160 GPa at 295 K and 80 GPa in the range 500-900 K. Experiments were performed on single crystals embedded in a quasihydrostatic pressure medium (helium or neon). Comparison between the present EOS data at 295 K and literature allows us to critically review the recent calibrations of the ruby standard. The full P-V-T data set can be represented by a Mie-Grueneisen model, which…

Melting of cubic boron nitride at extreme pressures.

Due to its large pressure range of stability and inert nature, cubic boron nitride has been proposed as a potential pressure standard for high pressure experiments. It is extremely refractive upon

TLDR
First-principles molecular dynamics are applied to evaluate the thermodynamics of zincblende structured (cubic) and liquid boron nitride at extreme temperatures and pressures, and compute the melting curve up to 1 TPa by integration of the Clapeyron equation.

Thermodynamic properties of cubic boron nitride based on an analytic mean field approach

AbstractWe present a detailed derivation of the analytic expressions for the equation of state (EOS) and internal energy of Morse model solids based on an analytic mean field potential (AMFP)

Compressibility and thermoelasticity of CrN

ABSTRACT We report experimental determination of compressibility and thermoelasticity for CrN based on in situ high pressure/high temperature synchrotron x-ray diffraction measurements. The

Vibrational, elastic, and structural properties of cubic silicon carbide under pressure up to 75 GPa: Implication for a primary pressure scale

We present results of concomitant measurements of synchrotron x-ray diffraction (XRD), Brillouin, and Raman spectroscopy on the single crystal samples of cubic silicon carbide (3C-SiC) under

Boron phosphide under pressure: In situ study by Raman scattering and X-ray diffraction

Cubic boron phosphide, BP, has been studied in situ by X-ray diffraction and Raman scattering up to 55GPa at 300K in a diamond anvil cell. The bulk modulus of B0¼174(2) GPa has been established,

Equations of state of novel solids synthesized under extreme pressure–temperature conditions

The pressure–volume–temperature equations of state have been constructed by combining experimental data and semiempirical estimations for a number of compounds recently synthesized under extreme

Shock compression of cubic boron nitride

Hugoniot measurements have been performed on high-purity cubic boron nitride polycrystals in the pressure range up to 296GPa using a two-stage light-gas gun. Hugoniot parameters have been measured by

High pressure-high temperature phase diagram of ammonia.

TLDR
The high pressure (P)-high temperature (T) phase diagram of solid ammonia has been investigated using diamond anvil cell and resistive heating techniques and no discontinuity is observed at the expected location for the III-IV-V triple point.
