In this work, we investigate the response of epsilon-near-zero metamaterials and plasmonic materials to electromagnetic source excitation. The use of these media for tailoring the phase of radiation pattern of arbitrary sources is proposed and analyzed numerically and analytically for some canonical geometries. In particular, the possibility of employing planar layers, cylindrical shells, or other more complex shapes made of such materials in order to isolate two regions of space and to tailor…

SHAPING THE RADIATION PATTERN WITH MU AND EPSILON-NEAR-ZERO METAMATERIALS

In this paper, mu and epsilon-near-zero (MENZ) metamaterials are used to convert the waves emitted from an embedded line source to various waveforms. The simulation results show that the converted

Optical isolation with epsilon-near-zero metamaterials.

Using theoretical analysis and numerical simulations, it is shown that metamaterials with extreme parameters, such as epsilon-near-zero materials, when merged with magneto-optical materials, become transparent for forward circularly polarized waves of a given handedness and opaque for backward propagating waves of the same handedness.

The proposed analytical closed-form formula provides the possibility to correlate the electromagnetic absorption properties of the structure (magnitude, bandwidth and resonant frequency) with its geometrical characteristics, and represents a useful tool in order to design the absorber for specific required applications.

Analytical study of subwavelength imaging by uniaxial epsilon-near-zero metamaterial slabs

We discuss the imaging properties of uniaxial epsilon-near-zero metamaterial slabs with possibly tilted optical axis, analyzing their sub-wavelength focusing properties as a function of the design

Experimental realization of epsilon-near-zero metamaterial slabs with metal-dielectric multilayers

Epsilon-near-zero (ENZ) metamaterial slabs at visible frequencies based on metal-dielectric multilayers are experimentally realized. Transmission, reflection, and absorption spectra are measured and

Theory and Simulations of a Conformal Omni- Directional Subwavelength Metamaterial Leaky-Wave Antenna

The detailed theory of a single subwavelength conformal radiator that exploits the resonant properties of thin cylindrical metamaterial shells supporting leaky waves is presented. It is shown and

Cloaking, scattering and coherence properties of epsilon-near-zero materials in transformation optics

This paper shows that epsilon-near-zero (ENZ) / mu-near-zero material can be obtained by using the transformation optics (TO) approach. It shows that when a line is stretched to a cylinder the z

Strategy for designing epsilon-near-zero nanostructured metamaterials over a frequency range

In terms of the effective medium theory, we propose a general solution to such a fundamental problem as designing nanostructured materials with the very low permittivity (epsilon-near-zero

Epsilon-near-zero metamaterials for tailoring ultrashort pulses

Interaction between epsilon-near-zero (ENZ) metamaterials and optical pulses is investigated theoretically. A transform between total transmission and total reflection is revealed for the ultrashort
