One of the most easily misdiagnosed injuries, which can result in severe consequences in young patients, is a fracture involving the epiphyseal growth plate. The Salter and Harris type V fracture is a relatively uncommon injury resulting from a severe crushing force applied through the epiphysis to an area of the growth plate.
