The effects of (-)-epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) on the contraction of floating collagen gel by fibroblasts were investigated. EGCG inhibited collagen gel contraction dose-dependently. On the basis of the fact that platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF) is one of the serum components with stimulatory activity in collagen gel contraction, we examined the possibility that interaction between EGCG and PDGF may be involved in this inhibition mechanism.
