SummaryAspergillus niger, strain 110.42 (CBS), has been selected as a producer of high xylanolytic activities. The time course of xylanase and β-xylosidase production as well as the effect of pH and temperature on the activity of these enzymes were studied. HPLC analysis of the enzymatic degradation of arabinoxylan showed a nearly complete conversion to pentose sugars. Aspects of using crude xylanase preparations for enzymatic saccharification of xylans are discussed.
