Enzymes in particulate fractions from sea urchin sperm and in soluble fractions from rat lung were shown to catalyze the formation of inosine 3',5'-monophosphate (cyclic IMP) and of 2'-deoxyguanosine 3',5'-monophosphate (cyclic dGMP) from ITP and dGTP, respectively. With sea urchin sperm particulate fractions, Mn2+ was an essential metal cofactor for inosinate, deoxyguanylate, guanylate and adenylate cyclase activities.
