We present a microscopical derivation of the entropy of the black hole solutions of the Jackiw-Teitelboim theory. We show that the asymptotic symmetry of two-dimensional (2D) anti\char21{}de Sitter space is generated by a central extension of the Virasoro algebra. Using a canonical realization of this symmetry and Cardy's formula we calculate the statistical entropy of 2D black holes, which turns out to agree, up to a factor $\sqrt{2}$, with the thermodynamical result.

The statistical entropy of the Kaluza-Klein black hole is studied by counting the black hole states which form an algebra of diffeomorphism at Killing horizon with a central charge. It is shown thatExpand
Statistical Entropy of the Schwarzschild Black Hole
We derive the statistical entropy of the Schwarzschild black hole by considering the asymptotic symmetry algebra near the boundary of the spacetime at past null infinity. Using a two-dimensionalExpand

Abstract We show that a realization of the correspondence AdS 2 /CFT 1 for near extremal Reissner–Nordstrom black holes in arbitrary dimensional Einstein–Maxwell gravity exactly reproduces, viaExpand
Wald's formula for black hole entropy, applied to extremal black holes, leads to the entropy function formalism. We manipulate the entropy computed this way to express it as the logarithm of theExpand
Black-hole entropy and thermodynamics from symmetries
Given a boundary of spacetime preserved by a Diff(S1) sub-algebra, we propose a systematic method to compute the zero mode and the central extension of the associated Virasoro algebra of charges.Expand
Entanglement entropy of two-dimensional Anti-de Sitter black holes
Abstract Using the AdS/CFT correspondence we derive a formula for the entanglement entropy of the anti-de Sitter black hole in two spacetime dimensions. The leading term in the large black hole massExpand
Emergent gravity and entanglement entropy of black holes
When the gravitational interaction emerges from some underlying quantum field theory, black hole entropy should be completely explained in terms of the entanglement entropy (EE) of the quantum fieldsExpand

AdS2 has an SL(2,R) isometry group. It is argued that in the context of quantum gravity on AdS2 this group is enlarged to the full infinite-dimensional 1+1 conformal group. Massive scalar fields areExpand
