Entomopathogenic fungi were recorded from field samples of the harlequin ladybird Harmonia axyridis, an invasive coccinellid that has recently arrived in Denmark. Larvae, pupae and adults were found to be infected by Isaria farinosa, Beauveria bassiana and species of Lecanicillium. This is the first record of entomopathogenic fungi infecting larvae and pupae. Winter mortality due to fungal infection reached 17.9% in adults collected at one location. The larval stage was most susceptible to… Expand
Evolution in biocontrol strains: insight from the harlequin ladybird Harmonia axyridis
TLDR
The findings suggest that mass rearing of biological control agents may strongly impact genetic diversity and life‐history traits in the Asian harlequin ladybird Harmonia axyridis. Expand
Parasitylenchus sp. (Tylenchomorpha: Allantonematidae) parasitizing field populations of Harmonia axyridis (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae)
TLDR
Adults of the invasive harlequin ladybird, Harmonia axyridis, were found to be parasitized by nematodes (Tylenchomorpha: Allantonematidae) in Denmark, with prevalence ranging from 2 to 33%. Expand
Parasitylenchus bifurcatus n. sp. (Tylenchida: Allantonematidae) parasitizing Harmonia axyridis (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae)
BackgroundThe harlequin ladybird, Harmonia axyridis Pallas (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae) is native to central and eastern Asia and was purposely introduced into Europe to control aphids. While itExpand

The harlequin ladybird (Harmonia axyridis Pallas) in Denmark: spread and phenology during the initial phase of invasion.
TLDR
Based on the observed phenology and on calculations of thermal sums for complete development, it is suspected that H. axyridis is bivoltine in Denmark with a possible third generation in warm years. Expand

Interactions between the entomopathogenic fungus Beauveria bassiana and the Neotropical predator Eriopis connexa (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae): Implications in biological control of pest
TLDR
Evaluating the compatibility and interaction between E. connexa and the entomopathogenic fungus Beauveria bassiana shows that despite having received a single dose of the fungus in its life cycle, the population parameters of the predator E. bassiana are affected. Expand
Population of the invasive harlequin ladybird Harmonia axyridis (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae) from Pelješac Peninsula, southern Croatia
SUMMARY Samples of the invasive alien ladybird, Harmonia axyridis , were col-lected between 27 July and 8 August 2013 at four localities on the Pel-jesac Peninsula in southern Croatia. Altogether,Expand
Living with the enemy: parasites and pathogens of the ladybird Harmonia axyridis
TLDR
An overview of the parasites and pathogens of coccinellids with a particular focus on H. axyridis as a host is provided and it is predicted that H.Axyridis could benefit from both enemy release and EICA within the introduced range but require further empirical evidence. Expand

TLDR
Based on the results obtained from the laboratory bio-efficacy studies, this fungus has been proved to be a potential entomopathogen and its incorporation into the IPM schedule is suggested for the management of thrips infesting tea. Expand

Susceptibility of a native and an exotic lady beetle (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae) to Beauveria bassiana.
TLDR
The exotic multicolored Asian lady beetle, Harmonia axyridis, became established and recently spread across much of North America and southern Canada and it is hypothesized that low susceptibility of H. axyridi to B. bassiana (found to infect O. v-nigrum) may provide an intraguild advantage to H. Axyridis. Expand
