Concentrations of dissolved and particle-associated n-alkanes, phthalates and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) were measured in sea surface microlayer (SML) and sub-surface water (SSL) samples collected in the coastal area of Terra Nova Bay, Antarctica, during the Austral spring 1998/1999. SML concentrations of the selected organic compounds were higher than SSL values and the enrichment factors were greater in the particulate phase than in the dissolved phase. During the same campaign…

Large Enrichment of Anthropogenic Organic Matter Degrading Bacteria in the Sea-Surface Microlayer at Coastal Livingston Island (Antarctica)
TLDR
The abundances and diversity of bacteria inhabiting the sea-surface microlayer and the subsurface waters (SSL) determined from a unique sample set from a polar coastal ecosystem point to the need to assess chemical pollution as a factor modulating marine microbiomes in the contemporaneous and future oceans.
Occurrence and Distribution of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons in the Marine Surface Microlayer of an Industrialized Coastal Area in the Eastern Mediterranean
Concentrations of dissolved and particulate polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) were determined seasonally in sea surface microlayer (SML) and sub-surface water (SSW) within the Saronicos Gulf,
Accumulation of semivolatile organic compounds in Antarctic vegetation: a case study of polybrominated diphenyl ethers.
Bacterioneuston and Bacterioplankton Structure and Abundance in Two Trophically Distinct Marine Environments - a Marine Lake and the Adjacent Coastal Site on the Adriatic Sea.
TLDR
This research explored the seasonal structure and abundance of bacterial assemblages in SML and underlying water layer (ULW) in eutrophic marine Rogoznica Lake and more oligotrophic coastal area of the adjacent Adriatic Sea, finding variations were driven by in situ conditions.
Sources and fate of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in the Antarctic and Southern Ocean atmosphere
Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are a geochemically relevant family of semivolatile compounds originating from fossil fuels, biomass burning, and their incomplete combustion, as well as
