Enrichment of a human leukemia cell line (K562) with a plant histaminase

Cellular systems characterized by an increase in amine oxidases (AOs) activity might be useful models better to define the functional role of these enzymes. In order to affect cellular biological functions by modulating the intracellular activity of AOs, we evaluated the possibility of enriching animal cultured cells with a purified exogenous AO. A human erythroleukemia cell line (K562) was treated under various experimental conditions with pea seedling histaminase (diamine oxidase, P-DAO) and the enrichment evaluated in term of increased catalytic activity.
