We report the physical properties of α-Fe2O3 (hematite), synthesized by dry-heating (350–1,000 °C) of a new, poorly ordered iron oxyhydroxide precursor compound that we name carbonated 2-line ferrihydrite. This precursor was characterized by powder X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, electron microscopy, and thermogravimetric analysis, whereas the α-Fe2O3 was studied with X-ray diffraction, scanning and transmission electron microscopy, and magnetic techniques. α-Fe2O3…

High coercivity α-Fe2O3 nanoparticles prepared by continuous spray pyrolysis

Surfactant free growth of α-Fe2O3 nanoparticles by continuous spray pyrolysis (CoSP) resulted in high coercivity (HC). X-ray diffraction (XRD), Raman spectroscopy, and Fourier transform infrared

Mesoporous urchin-like α-Fe2O3 superstructures with high coercivity and excellent gas sensing properties

This paper reports the synthesis, morphology, magnetic properties and gas sensing characteristics of mesoporous urchin-like α-Fe2O3 superstructures prepared by one-step thermal decomposition of iron

The influence of precursors on phase evolution of nano iron oxides/oxyhydroxides: optical and magnetic properties

The present investigation describes the evolution of nano iron oxide/oxyhydroxide phases synthesized under identical conditions of precipitation using different starting reagents. Depending on the

Field-dependent Morin Transition and Temperature-Dependent Spin-flop in Synthetic Hematite Nanoparticles

Background: In nano-size α-Fe2O3 particles, the Morin transition temperature was reported to be suppressed. This suppression of the TM in nano-size α-Fe2O3 was suggested to be due to high internal

The influence of silicate on transformation pathways of synthetic 2-line ferrihydrite

In this study, a series of synthetic ferrihydrite samples of Si/Fe molar ratios ranging from zero to 1.5 were heated up to 1000 °C using simultaneous TG–DTA equipment. The XRD, FTIR, SEM–EDS and

High crystallinity Si‐ferrihydrite: An insight into its Néel temperature and size dependence of magnetic properties

(1) Ferrihydrite, an antiferromagnetic iron oxyhydroxide with resulting magnetization due to uncompensated spins, is of great importance for the cycling of many trace metals in the environment. Four

Synthesis of a α-Fe2O3 nanocrystal in its different morphological attributes: growth mechanism, optical and magnetic properties

Nanospindle and nanorhombohedron and nanocube structured α-Fe2O3 was synthesized by the solvothermal method. An intermixing of ethylenediamine (EN) either with ethanol (EtOH) or water in different

Preparation of nanoparticles and hollow spheres of α-Fe2O3 and their properties

Uniform nanoparticles and hollow microspheres of hematite (α-Fe2O3) were obtained via a hydrothermal method by using iron (III) chloride as a precursor. The effects of reactant concentration,

Facile synthesis and magnetic properties of cross α-Fe 2 O 3 nanorods
