Expression of TrkB receptors were studied in the cerebral cortex of normal rats and young rats with hypoxic/ischemic injury. TrkB expressing cells were present in the piriform cortex at birth and increased in number with age, and were finally present in the entire cerebral cortex. Density of TrkB cells reached adult levels at P30. They were morphologically regarded as pyramidal neurons and interneurons.
