This study assesses a Continuous Data Assimilation (CDA) dynamical-downscaling algorithm for enhancing the simulation of the Indian summer monsoon (ISM) system. CDA is a mathematically rigorous technique that has been recently introduced to constrain the large-scale features of high-resolution atmospheric models with coarse spatial scale data. It is similar to spectral nudging but does not require any spectral decomposition for scales separation. This is expected to be particularly relevant for…

Multi-ensemble regional simulation of Indian monsoon during contrasting rainfall years: role of convective schemes and nested domain
Regional simulations of the seasonal Indian summer monsoon rainfall (ISMR) require an understanding of the model sensitivities to physics and resolution, and its effect on the model uncertainties. It
Indian Summer Monsoon Precipitation Climatology in a High-Resolution Regional Climate Model: Impacts of Convective Parameterization on Systematic Biases
Abstract In an attempt to develop a better simulation of the climatology of monsoon precipitation in climate models, this paper investigates the impacts of different convective closures on systematic
Simulation of the Indian summer monsoon regional climate using advanced research WRF model
In this study, the performance of the weather research and forecasting (WRF) ARW regional model was evaluated for simulating the regional scale precipitation during Indian summer monsoon (ISM) at 30
Assessment of Land Surface Models in a High-Resolution Atmospheric Model during Indian Summer Monsoon
Assessment of the land surface models (LSMs) on monsoon studies over the Indian summer monsoon (ISM) region is essential. In this study, we evaluate the skill of LSMs at 10 km spatial resolution in
Variability of monsoon low‐level jet and associated rainfall over India
The structure and climatology of the monsoon low‐level jet (MLLJ) is studied based on dynamically downscaled simulations over a 37‐year period (1980–2016) using the Weather Research Forecasting (WRF)
Efficient dynamical downscaling of general circulation models using continuous data assimilation
Continuous data assimilation (CDA) is successfully implemented for the first time for efficient dynamical downscaling of a global atmospheric reanalysis. A comparison of the performance of CDA with
Impact of satellite-retrieved atmospheric temperature profiles assimilation on Asian summer monsoon 2010 simulation
The impact of assimilation of satellite-retrieved atmospheric temperature profiles data in simulating mean monsoon circulation and rainfall of summer monsoon 2010 is examined in this study using the
Analysis of the Indian summer monsoon system in the regional climate model COSMO‐CLM
[1] The Indian summer monsoon (ISM) influences daily lives and economies in many countries in the South Asian region. This study analyzes the representation of the ISM system in the regional climate
Weakening of Indian Summer Monsoon Rainfall due to Changes in Land Use Land Cover
It is found that deforestation results in weakening of the ISMR because of the decrease in evapotranspiration and subsequent decrease in the recycled component of precipitation.
Representation of Arabian Peninsula summer climate in a regional atmospheric model using spectral nudging
This study assesses the performance of the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model in simulating the Arabian Peninsula summer climate for the period 2001–2016. The European Centre for Medium
