In April 2009, at the Association of Physicians of Great Britain and Ireland (APGBI) Annual Meeting in Birmingham, a workshop was held to consider the changing demographics of the medical profession, its potential effects on the Association's stated aims of promoting academic excellence and ways of ensuring that medical academia is attractive to everyone with the ability and drive it needs.
