INTRODUCTION: Obesity is a consistent presenting feature of the Bardet–Biedl syndrome (BBS), a hereditary disorder caused by a single gene defect. This contrasts sharply with general obesity which, despite a strong hereditary component, has a multifactorial aetiology.
