Endotoxemia is frequently associated clinically with disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC); however, the mechanism of endotoxin action in vivo is unclear. Modulation of tissue factor (TF) and thrombomodulin (TM) expression on the endothelial surface may be relevant pathophysiologic mechanisms.
