An aqeuous leaf extract of Musanga cecropioides (family: Cecropiaceae) is used in traditional medical practice to induce labour due to its oxytocic effect (Bouquet, 1969); it has also been reported to have a blood pressure lowering effect in humans (Bouquet, 1969).
