The quadrangular space permits an anterior entry into Meckel's cave while obviating the need for cerebral or cranial nerve retraction. This avenue is intimately associated with the cavernous sinus; thus, from this ventral perspective, it is feasible to visualize the anteromedial, anterolateral, and Parkinson triangles.
Characterization and implications of the lingual process of the sphenoid bone: a cadaveric and radiographic study
TLDR
The surgical significance of the lingual process of the sphenoid bone (LPSB) has not been sufficiently addressed and the anatomical details of the LPSB in relation to the quadrangular space are described.
Endoscopic Endonasal Approach to the Lateral Wall of the Cavernous Sinus: A Cadaveric Feasibility Study
TLDR
Endonasal endoscopic separation of the lateral cavernous dural layers is feasible without crossing the motor cranial nerves, allowing better exposure of the MCF.
Endoscopic endonasal approach to primitive Meckel’s cave tumors: a clinical series
TLDR
The EEA appeared an effective and safe approach to MC tumors and could be advantageous to treat tumors located in the antero-medial aspects of MC displacing the trigeminal structures posteriorly and laterally.
Refining the anatomic boundaries of the endoscopic endonasal transpterygoid approach: the "VELPPHA area" concept.
TLDR
Early identification of this area can enhance the safety of the endoscopic endonasal transpterygoid approach expanded to the lateral aspect of the skull base, especially when treating patients with poorly pneumatized sphenoid sinuses.
Anterolateral Triangle: A Cadaveric Study with Neurosurgical Significance
TLDR
The anterolateral triangle is one of 10 surgical triangles of the cavernous sinus and serves as an important anatomic landmark for the skull base surgeon and little agreement has been made regarding the nomenclature within the English literature.
The historical perspective in approaches to the spheno-petro-clival meningiomas
TLDR
A comprehensive literature review investigated the indications, outcomes, and complications of different surgical approaches to the SPC meningiomas to find a single strategy of treatment to optimize tumor resection and patient quality of life.
Access to Meckel’s cave for biopsies of indeterminate lesions: a systematic review
TLDR
A systematic review of available routes to approach Meckel’s cave highlights the endonasal endoscopic transpterygoidal technique as an excellent corridor for biopsies in the ventral MC.
Modern endoscopic skull base neurosurgery
TLDR
A wide view of the current indications and future perspectives of the endoscopic endonasal approaches (EEA) and of theendoscopic transcranial approaches is discussed and a judicious combination of transcranials and endoscopic-transnasal approaches warrants highest chances of achieving satisfactory tumors resection with a reduced risk of complications.

Vidian Canal: Analysis and Relationship to the Internal Carotid Artery
TLDR
The anatomy and relationships of the vidian canal to known endonasal and skull base landmarks are described to allow the endoscopic skull base surgeon to safely approach the anterior genu of the petrous carotid artery during expanded end onasal approaches to the skull base.
Microanatomical study of the extradural middle fossa approach to the petroclival and posterior cavernous sinus region: description of the rhomboid construct.
TLDR
A rhomboid-shaped construct of middle fossa landmarks that serve as a guide to maximally removing the petrous apex are identified that provide a relatively wide extradural corridor interposed between the 5th cranial nerve and the Cranial nerve VII-VIII complex, which minimizes brain retraction.
