SummaryThe association of endoplasmic reticulum (ER) with the developing cell plate has been analyzed in lettuce roots fixed in glutaraldehyde and post-fixed in a mixture of osmium tetroxide-potassium ferricyanide (OsFeCN). Electron microscopic observations show that elements of ER, which are selectively stained by the OsFeCN reagent, become loosely associated with aggregating dictyosome vesicles at the onset of plate formation. Subsequently the ER, in a tubular reticulate network, surrounds…

Distortion of plant cell plate formation by the intracellular-calcium antagonist TMB-8
TLDR
It is concluded that TMB-8 may cause distortation of cross walls as they form by delaying vesicle fusion, stabilizing microtubules, and increasing the amount of new wall material in the developing cell plate.
Putting the Squeeze on Plasmodesmata: A Role for Reticulons in Primary Plasmodesmata Formation1
TLDR
It is shown that members of the reticulon (RTNLB) family of ER-tubulating proteins in Arabidopsis (Arabidopsis thaliana) may play a role in the formation of the desmotubule.
The ER Within Plasmodesmata
TLDR
This chapter focusses on the role of the ER in plasmodesmatal formation and function.
The Morphology and Dynamics of the ER
TLDR
The cytoskeleton in connection with the respective motor proteins and cations like Ca 2+ and H+ play a critical role in the regulation of ER organization in dividing, differentiating, and stressedcells.
Organization and dynamics of cortical endoplasmic reticulum in inner epidermal cells of onion bulb scales
TLDR
It is proposed that close associations of ER and the plasma membrane (PM) stabilize the cortical ER and may stabilize coaligning MFs as well.
Intercellular communication inAzolla roots: I. Ultrastructure of plasmodesmata
TLDR
A model is proposed for the structure of the plasmodesmata of Azolla root primordia, based on micrographs obtained by a combination of fixation in glutaraldehyde/p-formaldehyde/tannic acid/ferric chloride, digestion of cell walls and the use of stereo pairs, indicating that the model is geometrically feasible.
The ultrastructure of the plasmodesmata of the salt glands ofTamarix as revealed by transmission and freeze-fracture electron microscopy
TLDR
Observations from both thin sections and freeze-fracture replicas indicate the presence of a circular cluster of six particles around the axial component near the cytoplasmic termini of the plasmodesmata.
Caffeine inhibition of cytokinesis: Ultrastructure of cell plate formation/degradation
TLDR
The results show that during the formation phase the caffeine treated plate is indistinguishable from untreated controls, and the consolidation phase of cell plate formation as the one being maximally affected by caffeine is focused on.
The endomembrane system and mechanism of membrane flow in the green alga,Gloeomonas kupfferi (Volvocales, Chlorophyta) I. An ultrastructural analysis
SummaryThe endomembrane system of the chlamydomonad flagellate,Gloeomonas kupfferi (Chlorophyta), is complex. It consists of a proliferating ER network, a perinuclear complex of 14–18 dictyosomes and
Membrane fusion process and assembly of cell wall during cytokinesis in the brown alga, Silvetia babingtonii (Fucales, Phaeophyceae)
TLDR
The membrane fusion process in Silvetia babingtonii zygotes was followed using electron microscopy together with rapid freezing and freeze substitution and immunocytochemical analysis indicated that fucoidan was synthesized in Golgi bodies and transported by vesicle to the future cytokinetic plane, where the vesicles fused with the FCs.

Membranes in the miotic apparatus of barley cells

    The Journal of cell biology
  • 1980
TLDR
It is suggested that the NE-ER of the dividing barley cell may function in one or both of the following ways: (a) to control the concentration of free Ca(++) in the MA and (b) to serve as an anchor to chromosome motion.
The structure of the endoplasmic reticulum revealed by osmium tetroxide-potassium ferricyanide staining.
TLDR
Under optimal circumstances OsFeCN is judged to be superior to other stain-fixatives for selectively contrasting the NE-ER compartment and is recommended generally for ultrastructural investigations.
THE GOLGI APPARATUS AND CELL PLATE FORMATION—A POSTULATE
It has long been clear that the cell plate formed during cytokinesis in most plant cells results from coalescence of small vesicles. It has been suggested that the origin of these vesicles is the
Studies on the endoplasmic reticulum. IV. Its form and distribution during mitosis in cells of onion root tip.
TLDR
Cells of onion and garlic root tips were examined under the electron and phase contrast microscopes after fixation in KMnO(4) to focus on the distribution and behavior of the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) during the several phases of mitosis.
MICROTUBULES AND EARLY STAGES OF CELL-PLATE FORMATION IN THE ENDOSPERM OF HAEMANTHUS KATHERINAE BAKER
A fine structure study of the phragmoplast and developing cell plate has been made on glutaraldehyde-osmium tetroxide-fixed, dividing, cultured cells of the liquid endosperm of Haemanthus katherinae

Cell division in leaves ofNicotiana
TLDR
Young leaves of Nicotiana tabacum were fixed in glutaraldehyde-formaldehyde followed by osmium tetroxide to study the fine structure of dividing cells and some of the microtubules of the mitotic spindle and the phragmoplast have an undulate appearance.
Low and high voltage electron microscopy of mitosis and cytokinesis in maize roots
TLDR
Evidence is presented to suggest that the formation of the desmotubule of a plasmodesma is by the squeezing of a strand of endoplasmic reticulum between the vesicles of the cell plate.
