Endogenous endonuclease-induced DNA fragmentation: an early event in cell-mediated cytolysis.

Within minutes of exposure of target cells to cytotoxic T lymphocytes, their nuclear DNA begins to be fragmented. This phenomenon precedes 51Cr release by at least an hour.
