Endogenous cannabinoids are considered to function as diffusible and short-lived modulators that may transmit signals retrogradely from postsynaptic to presynaptic neurons. To evaluate this possibility, we have made a paired whole-cell recording from cultured hippocampal neurons with inhibitory synaptic connections.
