Exogenous cannabinoids disrupt behavioral learning and impede induction of long-term potentiation (LTP) in the hippocampus, yet endogenous cannabinoids (endocannabinoids) transiently suppress inhibitory post-synaptic currents (IPSCs) by activating cannabinoid CB1 receptors on GABAergic interneurons.
