The thrips fauna of Norfolk Island is a curious mix of endemics and adventives, with notable absences that include one major trophic group. [] Key Result This fauna, comprising 66 species, includes among named species 29 Terebrantia and 33 Tubulifera, with four Tubulifera remaining undescribed. At least 12 species are endemics, of which 10 are mycophagous, and up to 10 further species are possibly native to the island. As with the thrips fauna of most Pacific islands, many species are widespread invasives…

The species of Haplothrips (Thysanoptera, Phlaeothripinae) and related genera recorded from the Hawaiian Islands

Abstract An illustrated identification key is provided to 17 species of Thysanoptera: Phlaeothripinae from Hawaii that are members of the Tribe Haplothripini, together with a further species that is…

The genus Hoplothrips in Australia (Thysanoptera, Phlaeothripinae), with eleven new species.

A key to 19 species from Australia in the genus Hoplothrips is provided, including 11 described as new species, including one species recorded in Australia for the first time, and two newly recorded from the Australian mainland.

Genera of the leaf-feeding Dendrothripinae of the world (Thysanoptera, Thripidae), with new species from Australia and Sulawesi, Indonesia.

Character states used in distinguishing taxa within the Thripidae subfamily Dendrothripinae are discussed, and a key presented to the 11 genera recognized worldwide. Comments on each of these genera…

Fungus-feeding Thysanoptera: Phlaeothripinae of the Idiothrips genus-group in Australia, with nine new species.

In a group of fungus-feeding Phlaeothripinae characterized by complex body sculpture, identification keys are provided to three genera and 15 species from Australia, including nine new species. In…

Tubuliferous Thysanoptera in Australia with an enlarged tenth abdominal segment (Phlaeothripidae, Idolothripinae), including six new species.

Remarkable structural variation in the tenth abdominal segment of some Phlaeothripidae species is discussed, together with its behavioural significance. Two tropical genera are newly recorded from…

Identification of Haplothrips species from Malesia (Thysanoptera, Phlaeothripinae).

Difficulties in distinguishing between three of the most common flower-living, Southeast Asian, species of this genus are discussed: H. anceps Hood from northern Australia, H. chinensis Priesner from Hong Kong, and H. brevitubus (Karny) from Japan.

Australian mycophagous species of the genus Deplorothrips (Thysanoptera, Phlaeothripinae).

The genus Deplorothrips Mound & Walker is recorded from Australia for the first time, and descriptions and an illustrated identification key are provided to 14 new species.

Thysanoptera-Terebrantia of the Hawaiian Islands: an identification manual

Abstract An illustrated identification system is presented to 99 species and 49 genera in three families recorded from the Hawaiian Islands in the Thysanoptera suborder Terebrantia. Only seven…

All genera of the world: Order Thysanoptera (Animalia: Arthropoda: Insecta)

There are 1270 genus-group names available in the Insect Order Thysanoptera by the end of 2020. Of these, 850 refer to currently accepted genera, including 65 genera of fossils. A further 420…

The genus Apterygothrips Priesner (Thysanoptera, Phlaeothripinae, Haplothripini) from China, with one new species

Abstract The genus Apterygothrips Priesner is a group of mainly wingless species in the tribe Haplothripini. The genus is diagnosed here based on the three species known from China, including…

The genus Scirtothrips in Australia (Insecta, Thysanoptera, Thripidae)

Twenty-one species of leaf-feeding thrips from Australia in the genus Scirtothrips, including eleven newly described species, are here distinguished with an identification key and illustrations, and two new speciesgroups, based on S. albomaculatus and akakia, are distinguished.

Australian thrips of the Haplothrips lineage (Insecta: Thysanoptera)

Haplothripini is the main focus of this study, and character state variation among the Australian species is discussed, and 24 species of Haplothrips from Australia are recognised, 14 being new species.

The genus Thrips (Thysanoptera, Thripidae) in Australia, New Caledonia and New Zealand

The genus Thrips includes about 280 species worldwide, and an identification key is provided to 41 from the Australian Region, of which 33 are recorded from Australia, 33 are known only from New Zealand, and 3 (including 1 new species) are knownonly from New Caledonia.

Spore-feeding thrips (Phlaeothripidae) from leaf litter and dead wood in Australia

  • L. Mound
  • Biology, Environmental Science
  • 1974
Twenty-seven species in 26 genera of spore-feeding Thysanoptera have been found in temperate and subtropical areas mainly in leaf litter, and in wet tropical areas particularly on dead wood, and two genera and 31 species are described as new; 30 species and seven genera are placed in synonymy.

Inventory of Thysanoptera Collected from French Polynesia1

Survey results and subsequent estimates of thrips species diversity in French Polynesia should be interpreted with caution due to uncontrolled variation in sampling intensity that was affected by survey duration, time of year, and visitation frequency to islands.

Terebrantia (Insecta: Thysanoptera).

Faunal relationships are discussed in the light of evidence for wind dispersal from Australia and introductions by man and the taxonomy and boiology of Thysanoptera in New Zealand and world-wide are introduced.

Leaf-litter thrips of the genus Adraneothrips from Asia and Australia (Thysanoptera, Phlaeothripinae).

The Oriental genus Stigmothrips Ananthakrishnan is synonymised with A draneothriPS Hood, a genus in which most species have been described from the Neotropics, and many species are brightly coloured or bicoloured in patterns of yellow and brown.

Species complexes and the generic classification of leaf-litter thrips of the tribe Urothripini (Phlaeothripidae)

Four genera, Bournieria, Ramachandraiella, Transithrips, and Verrucothrips are here placed in synonymy with BaenothriPS, and a key is provided to the remaining 13 genera of Urothripini from the world.

Natural and Disrupted Patterns of Geographical Distribution in Thysanoptera (Insecta)

Thrips are a frequent constituent of the aerial plankton and as a result the less host-specific species can disperse widely. Moreover, many are cryptic in behaviour and have been widely distributed…

Tubulifera (Insecta: Thysanoptera)

43 of the 68 species of Tubulifera appear to be endemic to New Zealand - a higher proportion than in the Terebrantia.
