Abstract Shoot tips obtained from in vitro grown plantlets of guava ( Psidium guajava L.) were encapsulated in calcium alginate beads for short-term storage and germplasm exchange. A gelling matrix of 3% sodium alginate and 100 mM calcium chloride was found most suitable for formation of ideal calcium alginate beads.
