Photon counting x-ray detectors (PCXDs) with energy discrimination capabilities offer various advantages over the current intensity integrating detectors, such as improved accuracy in material decomposition, reduced image noise, reduced radiation dose, etc. The major problem of PCXDs, however, is the limited speed.
