Objective: The aim of this study was to empirically determine subgroups of ADHD defined by specific patterns of psychopathology. Method: A clinical sample of 223 children with ADHD, aged 5 to 14 years, was examined with the Child Behavior Checklist (CBCL). In addition, comorbid psychiatric disorders, psychosocial risk factors, and socioeconomic status were assessed. Results: Cluster analysis of CBCL subscales yielded a solution with four distinct subgroups. While “externalizers” showed a high…
Clinical Subtypes in Children with Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder According to Their Child Behavior Checklist Profile
TLDR
Four distinct subgroups of attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) defined by specific patterns of emotional and behavioral symptoms according to the parent-rated Child Behavior Checklist (CBCL) were identified, characterized by psychopathological patterns, with and without internalizing and externalizing problems.
Latent Class Analysis of ADHD Neurodevelopmental and Mental Health Comorbidities
TLDR
Latent classes based on co-occurring psychiatric conditions predicted use of varied treatments and contribute to the characterization of the ADHD phenotype and may help clinicians identify how services could be best organized and coordinated in treating ADHD.
Comorbidity prevalence and treatment outcome in children and adolescents with ADHD
TLDR
This study was the first describing comorbidity patterns of ADHD in Italy, confirming, in a multicenter clinical setting, that ADHD is more often a complex disorder.
Sluggish Cognitive Tempo Symptoms Contribute to Heterogeneity in Adult Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder
TLDR
In general, adults with ADHD combined with SCT symptoms (moderate and severe) had significantly more symptoms of anxiety, depression, and persistent inattention, and had more severe professional and relational impairment compared to ADHD adults without SCT.
Discrimination of ADHD Subtypes Using Decision Tree on Behavioral, Neuropsychological, and Neural Markers
TLDR
The results showed that children with ADHD can be recognized from the healthy controls based on the neuropsychological data (sensory-motor parameters of IVA), and subtypes of ADHD can been distinguished from each other using behavioral, neuropsychiatric and electrophysiological parameters.
Perceived parenting attitudes in relation to ADHD symptoms and aggressive behaviors in a sample of Egyptian children with ADHD
Externalizing behaviors are common in children with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). This study was aiming to investigate the perceived parenting attitudes in children with ADHD and

Psychiatric comorbidity associated with DSM-IV ADHD in a nonreferred sample of twins.
TLDR
The results provide support for the discriminant validity of the dimensions and subtypes of DSM-IV ADHD and suggest that clinicians should carefully screen for comorbid disorders as part of a comprehensive assessment of ADHD.
ADHD comorbidity findings from the MTA study: comparing comorbid subgroups.
TLDR
Three clinical profiles are indicated, ADHD co-occurring with internalizing disorders (principally parent-reported anxiety disorders) absent any concurrent disruptive disorder (ADHD + ANX), ADHD Co-occurred with ODD/CD but no anxiety (AD HD + ODD /CD), and ADHD with both anxiety and O DD/CD may be sufficiently distinct to warrant classification as ADHD subtypes different from "pure" ADHD with neither comorbidity.
Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder with and without Obsessive—Compulsive Behaviours: Clinical Characteristics, Cognitive Assessment, and Risk Factors
TLDR
Comorbid OCB is common in clinically referred children with ADHD and is associated with increased impairment relative to ADHD alone, and children withADHD and OCB may develop symptoms as the result of different genetic and environmental risk factors, compared withChildren with ADHD only.
Behavioral Characteristics of DSM-IV ADHD Subtypes in a School-Based Population
TLDR
Findings support the validity of the DSM-IV ADHD subtypes; all ADHD groups demonstrated impairment relative to controls, but show different patterns of behavioral characteristics.
Are family variables associated with ADHD, inattentive type? A case–control study in schools
TLDR
The findings suggest that family adversity, low family cohesion and low FRI are associated with an increase in the risk for ADHD-I, although the cross-sectional nature of the study limits the ability to infer causality.

TLDR
Girls with ADHD showed dysfunction in terms of externalizing and internalizing behaviors and comorbidities, cognitive and academic performance, authoritarian parenting, and peer status, and the inattentive type was more socially isolated but less rejected by peers than the combined type.
Biological and psychosocial environmental risk factors influence symptom severity and psychiatric comorbidity in children with ADHD
TLDR
It is added to the body of evidence that non-genetic biological and psychosocial risk factors have an impact on ADHD symptom severity and differentially influence comorbid disorders in ADHD.
Variations in Anxiety and Depression as a Function of ADHD Subtypes Defined by DSM-IV: Do Subtype Differences Exist or Not?
TLDR
The results indicated that children with ADHD/COM and ADHD/I had similar levels of anxiety and depression.
