Emmprin is a transmembrane glycoprotein on tumor cells that stimulates peritumoral fibroblasts to produce matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs). Emmprin and the induced MMPs play a crucial role in tumor progression, invasion and metastasis of human carcinomas (epithelial malignancies).
