The six articles in this special section focus on emerging memory technologies. Technology scaling of traditional memory technologies, such as SRAM and DRAM, is increasingly constrained by fundamental technology limits. Key Quantitative Results

  • The research demonstrated that STT-RAM-based L2 cache can bring performance improvement and achieve more than 70 % power consumption reduction at the same time.
  • Under the same area constraint across a collection of 30 workloads, such aggressive hybridcache design provides 10–16 % performance improvement over the baseline design with a 3-level SRAM-only cache design, and achieves up to a 72 % reduction in power consumption.
