The need for an emergency braking system for the wind turbine is discussed in this paper. This system should be installed as the addition to a general control system. To solve the problem of emergency braking we propose an electromechanical device. It is equipped with electric and manual drives. The assembly with small outline dimensions transmits a high braking torque value due to the specific kinematic set of parts and waveform gear reduction unit.
