Peganum harmala alkaloiods are biologically active compounds. They were used as spices and hallucinogens. Harmaline and harmalol hydrochloride were tested for their po ssible embryolethal effects on Wistar pregnant rats . One hundred and twelve mature rats of both sexes were used in this study. In the first experiment, females were given ip injection of 5 and 10 mg/kg of the two compounds for 14 days starting fro m the first day of gestation. In the second experim ent, males were given ip…

The transdermal performance, pharmacokinetics, and anti-inflammatory pharmacodynamics evaluation of harmine-loaded ethosomes

HLE gel significantly inhibited the overexpression of inflammation cytokines prostaglandin E2, interleuking (IL)-1β, nitric oxide, and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) in the inflammation model of rat paw edema compared with HS gel.

Interspecies metabolic diversity of harmaline and harmine in in vitro 11 mammalian liver microsomes.

In vitro studies of harmaline and harmine metabolic profiles in different species are helpful for the proper selection and interpretation of animal models for pharmacological and toxicological evaluation, and will ultimately provide useful guidance for the development of β-carboline alkaloids.

Drug-induced damage to the embryo or fetus (molecular and multilateral approach to prenatal toxicology).

Some aspects of a modern approach to studying problems of prenatal toxicology are surveyed, suggesting multilateral ways of handling these problems and, possibly, overcoming the difficulties involved.
