Mutations at the dominant white spotting (W) and Steel (Sl) loci in mouse exert deleterious effects on three migratory cell lineages (primordial germ cells, melanocytes and hematopoietic stem cells) resulting in loss of pigmentation, reduced fertility and anemia.
