Endotoxemia has been reported as a mechanism for the fatal sequela after heatstroke. Subsequent disseminated fungal infection in a heatstroke patient has been also described. Beta-D-glucan, a constituent of the fungal cell wall, is an early diagnostic measure for fungal infection.
