Models of acarine systems are reviewed with particular reference to objectives for modelling, to the methods used for model building, and to the results obtained. The following elements are considered important in models of complex systems: common food acquisition/allocation functions in multitrophic models; migration and within-systems movement; and behavioral components in functional responses.
