Expand
Electron microscopic study on acid phosphatase of macrophages during the breakdown of erythrocytes in the spleen of the rat
SummaryAcid phosphatase (orthophosphoric monoester phosphohydrolase, EC 3.1.3.2) has been localized at fine structural level in rat splenic phagocytes. These cells show intense endocytic activities,Expand

TLDR
Several observations suggest that the epithelial cells themselves at least play an important role in the production of the basement membrane as well in the glomerulum as in other epithelial formations. Expand
Phagocytosis of amyloid: invitro interaction of mouse peritoneal macrphages with human amyloid fibrils and their accelerated uptake after dye binding.
TLDR
Stimulated peritoneal exudative cells from C3H mice were incubated with isolated untreated or Congo red stained human amyloid fibrils in tissue culture for 10 minutes to 6 hours and a variety of interactions of the masses of amyloids with the macrophage cell surface were demonstrated. Expand

TLDR
Acid phosphatase activity in heterophil Golgi zones coincides developmentally with the genesis of primary and, later, tertiary granules, whereas alkaline phosph atase in the Golgi complex coincides with secondary granulogenesis. Expand
Immunophagocytosis of human amyloid fibrils by leukocytes.
TLDR
Human peripheral blood leukocytes did not phagocytose isolated amyloid fibrils under conditions identical to those where microorganisms or denaturated serum proteins were easily ingested, and it is suggested that immunophagocyTosis may be one of the mechanisms whereby amyloids deposits can be eliminated from tissues. Expand
IMMUNOLOGIC STUDIES OF WATER-SOLUBLE HUMAN AMYLOID FIBRILS
TLDR
Comparative studies of DAM'S from eight different subjects showed some degree of cross-reactivity among them, yet demonstrated that they were not identical, and the existence in DAM of antigenic determinants that were lacking or inaccessible in the native fibrils was demonstrated. Expand
FURTHER BIOCHEMICAL AND MORPHOLOGICAL STUDIES OF GRANULE FRACTIONS FROM RABBIT HETEROPHIL LEUKOCYTES
Fractionation of rabbit heterophil leukocyte homogenates by isopycnic centrifugation as well as by zonal sedimentation has helped to characterize further the particulate components of these cells.Expand
FUNCTIONAL EVIDENCE FOR THE EXISTENCE OF A THIRD CELL TYPE IN THE RENAL GLOMERULUS
TLDR
Experiments carried out with electron-opaque tracers indicated that a functional distinction, based on extent of phagocytosis, can be made between the superficial and deep cells, thus supporting the existence of a distinctive "third" cell (in addition to endothelium and epithelium) in the renal glomerulus. Expand
Remission of the nephrotic syndrome in renal amyloidosis.
TLDR
Remission in the nephrotic syndrome with disappearance of proteinuria appeared to be related to antibiotic therapy of purulent bronchiectasis and amyloid deposits in the liver regressed completely after treatment of the underlying infection. Expand
