In this work, we investigated the electroweak vacuum instability during or after inflation. In the inflationary Universe, i.e., de Sitter space, the vacuum field fluctuations < δ ϕ 2 > enlarge in proportion to the Hubble scale H2. Therefore, the large inflationary vacuum fluctuations of the Higgs field < δ ϕ 2 > are potentially catastrophic to trigger the vacuum transition to the negative-energy Planck-scale vacuum state and cause an immediate collapse of the Universe. However, the vacuum field…

Electroweak vacuum instability and renormalized vacuum field fluctuations in Friedmann-Lemaitre-Robertson-Walker background

The cosmological Higgs vacuum stability has been an attractive research subject, and it is crucial to accurately follow the development of the Higgs fluctuations. In this work, we thoroughly

Gravitationally produced top quarks and the stability of the electroweak vacuum during inflation

In the standard model the (Brout-Englert-)Higgs quartic coupling becomes negative at high energies rendering our current electroweak vacuum metastable, but with an instability timescale much longer

Electroweak stability and non-minimal coupling

The measured values of the Higgs and top quark mass indicate that the electroweak vacuum is metastable if there is no new physics below the Planck scale. This is at odds with a period of high scale

Can dark matter drive electroweak symmetry breaking?

We consider the possibility of an oscillating scalar field accounting for dark matter and dynamically controlling the spontaneous breaking of the electroweak symmetry through a Higgs-portal coupling.

Postinflationary vacuum instability and Higgs-inflaton couplings

The Higgs-inflaton coupling plays an important role in the Higgs field dynamics in the early Universe. Even a tiny coupling generated at loop level can have a dramatic effect on the fate of the

On catalyzed vacuum decay around a radiating black hole and the crisis of the electroweak vacuum

False vacuum decay is a key feature in quantum field theories and exhibits a distinct signature in the early Universe cosmology. It has recently been suggested that the false vacuum decay is

Cosmological Aspects of Higgs Vacuum Metastability

The current central experimental values of the parameters of the Standard Model give rise to a striking conclusion: metastability of the electroweak vacuum is favoured over absolute stability. A

Eternal inflation and reheating in the presence of the standard model Higgs field

We study the details of eternal inflation in the presence of a spectator Higgs field within the framework of the minimal Standard Model. We have recently shown that in the presence of scalar field(s)

The Standard Model electroweak (EW) vacuum, in the absence of new physics below the Planck scale, lies very close to the boundary between stability and metastability, with the last option being the

Probable or improbable universe? Correlating electroweak vacuum instability with the scale of inflation

A bstractMeasurements of the Higgs boson and top quark masses indicate that the Standard Model Higgs potential becomes unstable around ΛI ∼ 1011 GeV. This instability is cosmologically relevant since

Is a Higgs Vacuum Instability Fatal for High-Scale Inflation?

We study the inflationary evolution of a scalar field h with an unstable potential for the case where the Hubble parameter H during inflation is larger than the instability scale ΛI of the potential.

Higgs vacuum metastability in primordial inflation, preheating, and reheating

Current measurements of the Higgs boson mass and top Yukawa coupling suggest that the effective Higgs potential develops an instability below the Planck scale. If the energy scale of inflation is as

Spacetime dynamics of a Higgs vacuum instability during inflation

A remarkable prediction of the Standard Model is that, in the absence of corrections lifting the energy density, the Higgs potential becomes negative at large field values. If the Higgs field samples

Fate of electroweak vacuum during preheating

Our electroweak vacuum may be metastable in light of the current experimental data of the Higgs/top quark mass. If this is really the case, high-scale inflation models require a stabilization

Simple cosmological solution to the Higgs field instability problem in chaotic inflation and the formation of primordial black holes

We revisit the compatibility between chaotic inflation, which provides a natural solution to the initial condition problem, and the metastable electroweak vacuum, which is suggested by the results of
